  11. Naim was born in Bulgaria, which was then 
  12. ruled by a Communist dictatorship. When
  13. he was 12, the government sent him to a
  14. special school for promising athletes. In
  15. 1983, at age 15, Naim set a world record by
  16. lifting 629.8 pounds! That year he also set a
  17. world record in the clean-and-jerk
  18. competition, hoisting 353.6 pounds.
